What is Kwakwath?

“Kwakwath” is a Native American word for Woodpecker.  According to Native American mythology the woodpecker is a symbol of nurturing.  I particulary like the interpretation that woodpeckers symbolize a return to our roots and a fierce determination to protect that which is sacred.

I  interpret “Kwakwath Lenawee” to mean “Birders of Lenawee County”.
